Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Have you struggled with chronic pain or other physical symptoms? Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than three months. In 2021, almost 20% of Americans reportedly struggled with chronic pain, and this number is rising.

If you are in pain, you may have lost your ability to work or do the things you love. You may feel desperate, afraid, depressed, or alone. You may have tried various treatments, including pain medications or surgery, but find their helpfulness to be limited. You may have lost hope of recovery or living the life you once dreamed of. Your friends, family, or doctor might not understand what you’re going through, or they may have given you the message that your pain is somehow not real, or that it’s your fault.

Your pain is real, and it’s NOT your fault.

The fact is that you are unfortunately not alone. The rate of suffering has skyrocketed, and so has the rate of opioid addiction. The medical industry has been unable to effectively help people with chronic pain, yet the standard medical model continues to drive most treatment approaches. 98% of medical schools across the United States and Canada require no compulsory chronic pain education, and those that do merely provide education on pain medications. Clearly, we need a new treatment paradigm.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is a cutting-edge, evidence-based therapy for chronic pain and other physical symptoms. It focuses on simple techniques for “rewiring” the neural pathways in the brain to deactivate pain. Studies have shown that 98% of PRT recipients lowered their pain, and 66% reported themselves to be pain-free or nearly pain-free after treatment.

Approximately 85% of people with chronic back pain have what is called “primary pain,” meaning tests are unable to identify a clear source of tissue damage. In some cases, chronic primary pain can result from misfiring neural pathways in brain regions associated with fear and reward. Over time, the brain becomes hypersensitized to even mild stimuli. The pain may stay in the same area of the body, or it might spread to other areas, sometimes with no clear cause. This type of pain is like a fire alarm stuck in the “on” position when there is no fire. It’s the result of faulty wiring. PRT seeks to silence the alarm by altering the brain networks producing the pain.

I know what it’s like to live with chronic pain.

After giving birth to my daughter in 2018, I herniated a disc in my lower back so severely that I had to undergo an emergency surgery. The injury healed, but I continued to experience pain.

I was fortunate to discover Pain Reprocessing Therapy. Through learning this modality, my pain is gone. I am able to run, ski, bike, play hockey, sit down as long as I want, do yoga, lift heavy objects, and do anything else I want to do. I want everyone struggling from chronic pain to learn about this approach so that they can also heal.

How do you know that something isn’t wrong with my body?

I don’t. It’s important to consult with your doctor, and sometimes get medical imaging done to rule out a structural issue. We want to make sure you’re not dealing with an underlying medical cause for your pain, so I will do a thorough assessment with you to get a sense of which type of pain you might be dealing with.

What if I already have a diagnosis?

A medical diagnosis can sometimes explain the cause of your pain- but not always. The 2017 CU Boulder study on back pain revealed that the condition of a person’s spine was not predictive of whether they developed chronic pain, believe it or not. If you’ve already been given a diagnosis, and have MRI or X-ray imaging that shows damage or abnormality in your tissues, it is still possible that your pain might not actually be originating from that condition.

I’ve tried everything already. I don’t want to get my hopes up again.

If this is the case, you might actually be the perfect candidate for PRT. You don’t have to believe that PRT will help you before you start therapy. You can let the results speak for themselves. If other treatments haven’t worked for you, why not try a different approach? PRT offers a completely different paradigm through which to treat chronic pain.
